Dr. Jessica Schmidt Kellerman (’07) and husband Steve are the proud parents of Isla Joan born on September 16th. 



Dr. Andrea Peerson Horne (’14) and husband Kyle welcomed Quinn into the world on June 14th. 



Dr. Kimberly Folwarski Brown (’11) and husband Rob are the proud parents of Sadie Sue born on August 10th. 



Dr. Katie Volk (’13) and husband John welcomed Macie Jayne into the world on July 31st. 



Dr. Amanda Brenci (’09) and husband James are the proud parents of Brooks, born August 25th.



Parker Pratt (’18) and wife Kaitlin welcomed Cannon Sterling into the world on July 14th. 



Dr. Katie Mayberry (’08) and husband Matt are the proud parents of Sylvia Kathryn, born on July 8th.



Dr. Kathy Doan and husband Matthew welcomed Nicholas Doan Linsenbardt into the world on July 2nd.



Drs. Clay Bigham (’02) and Allyson Conn Bigham (’03) are the proud parents of Betty Mae, born on July 26th. 

Dr. Nathan Dieckow (’09) and his wife Debra welcomed Ethan into the world on August 25th.



Dr. Kristin Skredenske Fink (’10) and husband Gregory are the proud parents of Madeline Rose, born on July 30th.

Heart of America: A Great Annual UMSL Tradition

The 56th Annual Contact Lens & Primary Care Congress presented by the Heart of America Contact Lens Society was, once again, a great success and represented a great opportunity for College of Optometry students and residents to network, present posters, receive high quality continuing education, and help as monitors and graduates to have the opportunity to see their classmates and enjoy, not only the expansive exhibit hall but also customize their education based upon the five tracks of courses given simultaneously.  The faculty included two UMSL graduates, Drs. Rebecca Wartman(‘87) and Shane Kannarr(‘00) and Assistant Dean, Dr. Ed Bennett.  Likewise, the Heart of America Board of Directors had a significant UMSL presence with Drs. UMSL Hosts Receptions at the Missouri Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry

An important part of a successful organization is to maintain engagement with our alumni as well as provide the opportunity for students and alumni to connect at various events across the state.  The College of Optometry has been hosting receptions as Heart of America, Optometry’s Meeting, and most recently at the Annual Meeting of the Missouri Optometric Association (MOA) and the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). The recent MOA meeting was in Branson, Missouri. Dean Larry Davis addressed all of the attendees with an update on the newly opened UMSL Patient Care Center. During his address, he discussed the ongoing fundraising. In addition, Director of Student and Alumni Services Nick Palisch, along with a great team of student ambassadors staffed the UMSL booth to meet with attendees. UMSL National Optometric Student Association wins Chapter of the Year

UMSL National Optometric Student Association wins Chapter of the Year UMSL NOSA President Alexandra Mejas(’19) (right) receiving the Chapter of the Year Award Alexandra Mejas (’19), and Lulette Fermil (’19) The UMSL National Student Optometric Association (NOSA) has always been one of the more active service-oriented chapters in the country.  Recently, at the annual National Optometric Association(NOA), held July 5 – 10, 2016  in Chicago, they were recognized for their efforts by being honored as the recipient of the NOSA Chapter of the Year.  Several UMSL Optometry NOSA Members who attended the conference included chapter President Alexandra Mehas (’19), Kajene Murugathasan (’18), Jasmine Hayes (’18), Kanesha McBee (’17), and Lulette Fermil (’19).  In addition, UMSL faculty members, Dr. Christine Gavett and Dr. Angel Simmons were in attendance at the event.   According to Kajene Murugathasan (’18), UMSL was a popu...
