Hetke Chosen as UMSL|Optometry Student Spotlight for October 2014

Dustin Hetke, Class of 2015

Every month the Office of Student Services with the College of Optometry seeks nomination from the faculty, staff, and students of the college in an effort to recognize one student who exemplifies our student body.

The student chosen for October 2014 is Dustin Hetke (Class of 2015).

Dustin was chosen for this recognition because of the nomination the office received on his behalf, "Dustin is always eager to see his patients in clinic. One of his last patients was one that was coming for a third visit. They were unhappy with their glasses prescription. I don't think anyone before had done a poor job, but Dustin's thorough explanation, patient education and friendly attitude won the patient over. The patient was delighted with her last visit and remarked about Dustin's qualities and abilities. I believe Dustin demonstrated that it isn't just what you know or your actual abilities, but also how you present it, how you treat the patient and making them feel good about the visit. Patient confidence in their doctor and developing a friendly relationship with their doctor can make all the difference in how they perceive the visit."

Congratulations Dustin on being the October 2014 Student Spotlight!!!

This is all because of you.
Four years ago each of you began a journey together—not knowing what to expect or what to do, but you quickly learned the next four years would be a challenge.  Through it all though, you stood tough.  Quite frankly, it wasn’t always easy and I am sure moments questioning your decision crossed your mind—maybe more than once.  Always remember this: If it was meant to be easy then everyone would be here, but that is not the case.  You are one of a small group of dedicat…
