New York Times’ Best Seller Author to Speak at UMSL| Optometry Fechner Day The University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry’s 13 th Annual Fechner Day will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 12:30pm in Lucas Hall Room 100.    Fechner Day is celebrated at many academic institutions including an annual international conference.   The tradition has continued at UMSL thanks to the generous support of Dean Davis.    The College of Optometry pays tribute to Gustav Fechner (1801-1887), a German experimental psychologist, who founded psychophysics and formulated Fechner’s Law, a landmark in the emergence of psychology as an experimental science. Fechner believed that one can better understand the brain by measuring the relationship between a stimulus and behavior. UMSL| Optometry Student Organization Hosts Event

The Society for the Advancement of Independent Optometry (SAIO) hosted their first meeting of the year at Ferguson Brewing Company with guest speaker Dr. Justin Bazan, owner of Park Slope Eye in Brooklyn, NY.   Dr. Bazan presented to the group of 68 attendees including students and faculty on his road to private practice in optometry.  He also provided his personal philosophies of office operation as a business owner and optometrist. Valerie (Brown) Arnold Awarded Scholarship

Valerie Brown Awarded Scholarship from Arkansas Optometric Association LITTLE ROCK (September 3, 2014)-The Arkansas Optometric Association (ArOA) has announced Valerie Brown as the recipient of the 2014 Dr. Milton Webb Optometric Leadership and Service Scholarship.   Valerie Brown-Arnold is from Crossett, AR and received her B.S. in Biology from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR.  While at Southern Arkansas University, she was very active on campus as a member of the Lambda Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and in various other clubs and organizations.  She competed in several pageants during her years at SAU and represented the school at Miss Arkansas as Miss Magnolia 2009, Miss Southern Arkansas University 2010 and Miss Texarkana, AR 2011.    She now attends the University of Missouri in St. Louis College of Optometry where she is a second year student and will graduate in 2017.  At UMSL, she is very involved on campus and is the president of t
